Marina Bay floating platform’s redevelopment to start in 2022

THE redevelopment works on The Float @ Marina Bay are scheduled to start in March 2022 and be finished by end-2025, the Ministry of National Development (MND) and the Ministry of Defense (Mindef) said on Wednesday.

The ministries said in a joint statement: “In any case, given the effect of Covid-19, the venture scope and timeline might be adjusted. More details on the venture will be shared with the open when prepared.”

The floating platform will be redeveloped into a perpetual space to stage huge scale national and network events, such as the National Day Parade, River Hongbao and the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown. It will also give spaces within Marina Bay to general society to appreciate network and recreational activities.

MND and Mindef said on Wednesday that they have granted the design consultancy delicate to a consultant group drove by Woha Architects. The Singapore-based building practice will be the principal consultant and lead the undertaking group to create and execute the design. The delicate was held from May 2019 to July 2020, and 25 submissions were gotten at the close of the expression-of-interest exercise. The idea design proposal submitted by Woha Architects, in a joint effort with design firm Populous, will make a fit-for-purpose and adaptable events scene that also features network sports facilities, such as a swimming pool and water sports focus.

There will also be another open waterfront promenade forming some portion of the circle around Marina Bay and improved pedestrian availability, based on the idea design proposal. Food-and-drink and retail offerings are also being considered.

There will also be a National Service (NS) themed exhibition to showcase the country’s defense and NS story, and to recognize the contributions of national servicemen past and present.

The floating platform’s redevelopment is a piece of Singapore’s drawn out urban-improvement plans, to make the downtown area increasingly dynamic and to make open spaces where the network can meet up.

Initially worked as an impermanent National Day Parade setting while the new National Stadium was under construction, The Float @ Marina Bay can seat 27,000 spectators. It has hosted the occasion nine times since 2007, most as of late in 2018.
